Moleskine Sketchbook Large – Painting to see : Peindre pour voir

I have been drawing on a daily basis since this week and I have found that I am drawing anywhere and everywhere and anything. Drawing takes less time than painting, and I had alot of fun with this drawing. I was actually sitting in bed, reading, when my eyes started seeing the room… kaboum! The inspiration had just arrived… so I rushed to get my drawing sketchbook and Carbon Ink fountain pen, and this is what came out of this little 15 minute impromptu session. Quirky and grungy.

Depuis cette semaine je dessine à tous les jours… n’importe quoi et n’importe quand et surtout n’importe où. Dans mon automobile, à mon bureau, dans le salon en regardant le télé. Ce dessin a été fait pendant que je lisais dans ma chambre à coucher, et soudainement mes yeux ont commencé à regarder la chambre… et l’inspiration est arrivée! Kaboum! Je me suis précipitée pour prendre mon cahier à dessins, plume fontaine Carbon Ink et voici la dessin tout croche et totalement impromptu.

I have been putting more care into my scans lately. I used to just scan my paintings in my very low end scanner, and would not retouch at all in Photoshop… even though I have taught Photoshop for many years. I do not know why, it seems as though I was transgressing one of my artistic limits–I wanted to keep the art “pure” without any digital add-ons.

However, when we were down south at the beginning of the summer, water fell on my sketchbook and made the pages curl and curve… and these curves appear as a grey tint next to the yellowish background. I then decided to fix the background colour of the paper to a more uniform colour. I also added a drop shadow, just to give the painting some form of depth. I like the result.

Mes peintures n’ont jamais été retouchées dans Photoshop (même si j’ai enseigné ce logiciel plusieurs années), car pour moi, je voulais garder ma peinture “pure”. Par contre, cet été quand nous étions dans le sud, j’ai renversé de l’eau dans mon Moleskine Sketchbook et malheur de malheur, les pages gondolent et courbent. Donc, quand je numérise, ces parties sortent grises au côté du fond jaune… pas tellement joli. Donc, je me suis décidée et j’ai pris le temps de rendre la couleur de fond uniforme et j’ai aussi mis un “drop shadow” qui donne un effet de profondeur de champ. J’aime bien le résultat. Ce dessin a pris 15 minutes à faire.
