Had a wonderful time this weekend in Burlington under the watchful gaze of Shari and 14 other sketchers. We painted for two full days, and I was pooped at the end of both days. Burlington is a beautiful city with magnificent views of the mountains. My challenge for the weekend was to paint without the use of an ink line… just lead. For some this might appear trivial, but for me it was definitely a challenge as being a graphic artist for all of my life, I have relied heavily on the line for everything that I had to do. For this sketch, I tried to apply the principle that cold colours recede in the distance and warm colours move up, grow forward. I also tried to apply atmospheric perspective to the clouds with the closest clouds being big while the far away clouds were small. I also liked the way that with one sweep of the brush, I could leave some white in the water (bottom left-hand side).
