As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth,
so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind.
To make a deep physical path,
we walk again and again.
To make a deep mental path,
we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives.
— Henry David Thoreau
This post is for Linda… and I hope that you are enjoying the sun and the warmth of the southern climes. Despite all of the the grading and preparation for my classes that I must do I have managed to enjoy my day. Today everyone in my region seemed to be outdoors as we were hovering near the 0ºC and it felt wonderful, even if there was no sun — we have been living in -20ºC to -30ºC weather for the past month, and today’s temperature was a very sweet change. On grey days, it is hard to make things pop as there are hardly any shadows so I tried experimenting with some colours, and see how I could keep a subdued hue and keep the painting soft. These are the poultry farms on our campus which abuts the McDonald Campus, McGill’s agricultural campus.
