I played Debussy for many many years on the piano and as I was listening to his music today, it was soothing for the soul. His music L’Après-midi d’un faune was inspired by Mallarmé’s poem, and the cherubin candle holder that lies on my mantlepiece just reminded me of the nymphs dancing in it.

J’ai joué du Debussy sur le piano pendant de nombreuses années et pendant que j’écoutais sa musique aujourd’hui, un sentiment apaisant m’est survenu et mon âme en était reconnaissante. Sa musique L’Après-midi d’un faune a été inspirée par le poème de Mallarmé, et le cherubin chandelier qui se trouve sur mon manteau de cheminée me rappelait ces nymphes qui dansent dans son poème.
