First Snow :: Première neige

     Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
     My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
     He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
     The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
–Robert Frost

Woke up to a blanket of snow covering the lawn and it gave me joy! I would rather have snow than then dreary greyness of this past November. With this in mind I set out in my small car to drive around and pick a spot to paint and at the corner of Montée Lavigne and Main Road in Hudson I found this old shed that had everything that I wanted to paint. I chose music from J. S. Bach, St. Matthew’s Passion and put it really loud and got down to the task of painting. I felt like the snow outside, dancing around with my paintbrush -)

For mixing up the greens I decided to keep the Indigo Blue colour as a constant and change my yellows. Starting by the conifer on the left-hand side (and assuming that there are five conifers) the first tree was mixed with Cadmium Yellow, then the second one was mixed using Aureolin Yellow and then the three on the right were mixed with New Gambodge.
