Drawing is the ‘bones’ of art. You have to be able to walk before you can run.

Today I drew one of my students named Emily with the “Look–Hold–Draw” method. This method is a slow way of drawing that has many rewards. This technique is discussed in the wonderful book by Bert Dodson named Keys to Drawing.
• Look at the subject and take note of a contour or shape;
• Hold that contour or shape in your mind for a moment;
• Draw it while it’s still fresh in memory.
Notice that we do not include “think about it” in this sequence. Drawing is a process which bypasses conscious thought and knowledge.
• Regardez le sujet et prendre note d’un contour ou la forme;
• Maintenez ce contour dans votre esprit pendant un moment;

So now I have to buy another book? OK. But I’m running out of cash….
I linked my post “Carving Out Time” to one of yours. I am an avid follower. Wish I could take one of your classes.

Hello Whimsey — if you buy the book you will not regret it. It is excellent -) And not very expensive… about 20$. Thank you for linking and one of these days, when I retire, I might give a few workshops -)))
