Art is the only way to run away without leaving home.
— Twyla Tharp
So the saying goes, I did stay home to draw today. This drawing comes from a reference photograph as I simply do not have the time to go out and paint in the car or on location. It was mostly done with vertical lines… there are but a few horizontal lines. It was a challenge but I am quite happy with the result. This type of exercise is a challenge of breathing. I almost had to stop breathing in order to keep the same space and rhythm between lines.. it almost felt as though I were playing a musical score. For the dark intense closely knit lines I could breathe very easily, but with the light, equally spaced lines oh-ho! The body would stop moving to let the hand-arm do what they had to do.
