Flow :: the optimal state of being :: État optimal de grâce

There is something to say about the healing power of drawing/painting. The minute that I start drawing/painting, it seems as though my mind sets itself in a zone of “flow”… of being totally absorbed in the moment. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi studied this at length and wrote many articles and books on the subject. Gardeners, musicians, painters… anyone that loves doing an activity for the pure joy of doing it, reaches an optimal state of flow. I sure hope that some of you can achieve this state as it is very therapeutic.

(means thoughts, reflections about hapiness) ..
I find myself lucky to have found Mihaly’s books translated in french.(I called him Mihaly it’s easier!)

    So, have a wonderfull day.

What will be my flow for today? Et je vous lis toujours avec intérêt.

  4. So true Jane. But for drawing to be therapeutic one has to be relaxed and that is so hard to do sometimes. Do you find? Maybe it is just me. Beautiful purple in this one!

Hi Shari, yes I agree with you. I usually find that if I am stressed out, just the act of painting relieves some of the tension…. and then flow can start. Sometimes when I am stressed out my painting is all wrong and I have to restart it… and then I calm myself down and usually it works, but we need time for this and when time is lacking, that is when the stress starts! Full circle, huh?
