I am starting to prepare for the holidays… even with my sketching, and further on for my paintings. Did I mention that I am planning on painting every day of the holidays? LOL — maybe that I have to remind myself here. So here is a quick sketch of our fireplace mantel, which the term originated in medieval times as a hood that projected over a grate to catch the smoke. Nowadays, it is more appropriate to name it a mantelpiece (also known as chimneypiece). On the top left hand side is our very small xmas tree.
