A fief is a historical piece of land, especially one held on condition of feudal service. The fees were often lands or revenue-producing real property held in feudal tenure: these are typically known as fiefs or fiefdoms.
Yesterday I went painting on Chemin Fief, a rural road in Rigaud that ends in Vaudreuil. The painting that I did was really inadequate, so I decided to go back today and repaint the same theme today… with nicer results in my opinion. As I promised last week, my theme colour is French Ultramarine, a very dark blue — most of my colours were used by mixing some part of French Ultramarine with other colours. So there is a certain hue to this painting that is very Ultramarine. By the way, this is one of my friends’ house, Peter.
La maison près du ruisseau sur le chemin du Fief de mon ami Peter… de grands espaces ainsi qu’une grande tranquillité dans ce paysage. Hier matin, de bonne heure, je suis allée peindre là-bas, et manque de temps ma peinture a pris le bord… Donc aujourd’hui je suis retournée au même endroit pour repeindre la peinture qui avait pris le bord… et elle est mieux, à mon goût. Cette peinture a été peinte avec une couleur thème qui est le “French Ultramarine” ce qui veut dire que c’est un bleu très foncé qui a été mélangé à toutes les autres peintures dans ce paysage pour rendre ce résultat.
