Rigaud is horse country (and I should add fly and wildlife country). When I was very young, my brother, my cousin and I took hunter horseback riding lessons at the Robespierre Stables and we were taught by Michel Vaillancourt, silver medalist at the Montreal Olympics in 1976. You would think that we were good riders… do not fear, we were not. We were also taught by Robert and Pierre Jolicoeur, who were the owners of the stable. Robert is a landscape architect and he was the person that designed the jumping course for the 1976 Olympic games in Montreal. These stables have changed hands, many times in fact, and it is now called the Écurie Green Meadows Stables.
Aujourd’hui je me suis retrouvée aux Écuries Green Meadows Stables. C’est ici qu’à l’âge de 16-18 ans j’ai appris à faire de l’équitation avec selle anglaise. Pendant que je peignais aujourd’hui, il y a un homme qui vient vers moi avec un gros baril et me regardait. Je l’ai salué. Ensuite, il est revenu avec un autre homme et son cheval qui semblait tellement grand à comparer de ma petite automobile… et tout d’un coup, les pattes arrière du cheval ont “kickées” et sont arrivées à 1 pouce de mon auto. Mes papiers et ma peinture ont pris le bord, l’eau a débordé, je ne savais plus si j’avais mon pied sur la clutch j’étais tellement énervée, et j’ai filé un peu plus loin pour finir ma peinture. Sapristi! J’ai eu chaud!
